***An edited quaility video was not in my cards this week, I am working on this, the video will include 3 statements/facts about glass...2 being true and 1 being false. So in place of the video for right now I am going to display the statements and where I found my information. This information will not be included in the video or on the blog post for the students to see. So that the students will have to research it for themselves and fill out the investigative form I created below.***
Statement #1--Glass delusion, the fear of shattering into pieces becasue you are made of glass, is a real pyschiatric disorder.
Glass Delusion info
Statement #2--The course of Chinese history was negativly affected becasue they used ceramic tea cups instead of glass.
Statement #3---Like salt, quartz, sugar, rock candy, glass is a solid.
Amorphous vs Crystalline Solids
The false statement being Statement #3, that glass is not like the said materials it's an amorphous solid.
Assignment:
For each statement you will need to fill out an Investigation form, like the form pictured below, that was given to you in class.
The information on your form should support your thoughts on each statement being true or false.
I really like the "Investigative Report" form. It helps connect the hypothesis in a manner that appeals to 9th graders. Great Idea!!

Do all teachers use that form? We all need to be on the same page like that!!
ReplyDeleteActually Kellie with the help of my team English teacher we created that document
DeleteI love the format of your lessons. They are witty and engaging for your students.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of 2 Truths 1 lie! It allows and encourages students to approach the content with interest! Your document is such a good tool to ensure that students show supporting evidence to their statement. (Such a great tie in to DBQs and augmentative writing data collection.) Pumped that you did such a great job and excited to borrow this activity!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to echo the others in that I really like the idea of the investigative report to guide the students in their inquiry.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Steve... the lesson format is great and the lesson sounds very engaging! The research aspect opens up a great opportunity for the integration of technology as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea for a lesson. A catchy title for a lesson that should grab your students' attention. I may need to steal this one.
ReplyDeleteI am most likely the most non-science person in this group, and even I would find this activity enjoyable. What grade level do you teach? I should know but?????
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of giving two truths and a false statement. I think it makes the lesson more interesting to students
